Welcome to the USFSP Psychology Department!

The Psychology Department at USFSP is committed to the pursuit of innovative scientific inquiry that addresses important societal issues. Our program's aim is to help advance the field of psychology through thoughtful intellectual leadership built on the foundation of careful empirical research efforts that have implications for helping to improve the human condition. Core faculty members are active scientists engaged in both basic and applied research; current members of our Department have special interests and expertise in the domains of social, clinical, health, family, community, and pediatric psychology, as well as cognitive neuroscience, research methodology and statistics. Our program affords students a rigorous training experience emphasizing both the theoretical and empirical foundations of our discipline. In keeping with our mission, we also offer students unusually rich opportunities to engage in intensive, outside-the-classroom research apprenticeships to promote their development as outstanding young scientists.

Our core faculty members all teach courses in the undergraduate program, and work closely with students on cutting-edge research topics. Faculty members address key scientific controversies in their research programs and communicate with national and international leaders through their scholarly work; students who collaborate with our faculty on research present the fruits of their own efforts in local, national and international research forums. We strive to graduate incisive, broad thinking scientists possessing the skills and competencies to address questions of societal importance themselves, and to continue their training in top graduate programs around the country. Those interested in majoring in Psychology at USFSP or in applying to one of our outstanding graduate programs are encouraged to peruse our website for further information, or contact any members of our faculty directly to learn more about our program.

NEWS & EVENTS

PSYCHOLOGY WELCOMES THE FIRST COHORT IN OUR GRADUATE INFANT-FAMILY MENTAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE PROGRAM! In January 2013, USF St. Petersburg welcomed 13 talented individuals from throughout the state of Florida as members of our new, fully online one-year program. The certificate was designed for both recent graduates from Bachelor’s programs seeking positions, or working in, area agencies that serve families of children birth to age 3 and for in-field professionals seeking to re-specialize. After completing three core classes, students will enroll in a final practicum experience where they will apply the skills they've learned in an agency or setting serving infants, toddlers, and their families. The 2014 Cohort will begin classes on January 6, 2014. Those interested in applying for Spring 2014 may now begin collecting their application materials (e.g., three letters of recommendation, writing samples, etc.) and apply online as a non-degree seeking student for Spring 2014 in late Summer 2013. The courses can transfer into the MA in Psychology program or stand alone as a separate certification. For more information on the program, please click here. Deadline for best consideration for program admission will be December 1, 2013. Additional information can also be acquired at 727-873-4963 or by completing the interest form.
