Our faculty will participate in training for C1 bank employees in accounting, business law, finance and other business topics. Patty Gaukel is teaching a segment on financial accounting for bankers. John F. Jewell and Nicole Forbes Stowell will teach segments on banking law. We look forward to working with C1 Bank as it grows in our community and have excitement for bringing our expertise to other institutions as part of their corporate training and continuing education programs.
Our Program is separately accredited by AACSB International. This accreditation places USF St. Petersburg in elite company. Only USF St. Petersburg and USF Tampa offer separately accredited accounting degrees in the Tampa Bay region. Acheiving accreditation requires meeting strict standards for faculty qualifications and participation in the educational process as well as a host of other measures to assure students of a quality program. We have just had a visit from the peer review team as part of our fifth year maintenance for continuing accreditation and await the AACSB decision in April 2013.
Our students reflect the quality of our institution and are our primary product at USF St. Petersburg. Our students enjoy smaller class sizes taught by faculty who are either professionally qualified or academically qualified. We have exceeded AACSB standards with 100% of our faculty meeting such qualifications. In addition, nine of ten of our full time faculty have PhDs or a terminal degree and two of four adjunct faculty members have PhDs or a terminal degree. All of our full time accounting faculty teaching in tax or accounting courses are licensed as CPAs or CMAs.
Mu Gamma, our Beta Alpha Psi chapter is maturing in its fifth full year within the USF St. Petersburg Program of Accountancy. Its accomplishments bring pride to all of USF St. Petersburg, with two national first places in ad hoc competitions against other U.S. chapters as well as high finishes in regional competitions, often placing well ahead of other larger and more mature chapters. In each of its five years, Mu Gamma has received the highest rating "Superior," lending another point of pride for USF St. Petersburg.
We welcome Dr. Carl Pacini, Ph.D., CPA and JD to our program as Associate Professor of Accounting. He most recently taught at Penn State and will continue his research in accounting with an emphasis on assurance and forensic topics. We look forward to interacting with you and your firm to develop classroom and research techniques that are relevant, timely and useful to our Tampa Bay community.
