Program Requirements - BA Degree
A Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Economics is offered through the College of Business as an affiliated major (i.e., it is not a Business degree). Students are required to complete 33 credits in Economics courses in addition to their other degree requirements. Required Courses (18 hours): ECO 2013 - Macroeconomics (3 credit hours) ECO 2023 - Microeconomics (3 credit hours) ECO 3101 (.pdf) - Intermediate Price Theory (3 credit hours) ECO 3203 (.pdf) - Intermediate Macroeconomics (3 credit hours) QMB 2100 - Business and Economic Statistics I (3 credit hours) QMB 3200 - Business and Economic Statistics II (3 credit hours)
Elective Courses (15 hours) Students also choose 5 Economics electives numbered 3000 or higher. Electives regularly offered at USFSP include: ECO 3703 (.pdf) - International Economics (3 credit hours) ECO 4723 (.pdf) - International Trade and Policy (3 credit hours) ECO 4713 (.pdf) - International Macroeconomics (3 credit hours) ECS 4430 (.pdf) - Economics of Latin America (3 credit hours) ECO 4504 (.pdf) - Public Finance (3 credit hours) ECP 3530 (.pdf) - Economics of Health (3 credit hours) ECP 3302 (.pdf) - Enviornmental Economics (3 credit hours) Each of these required and elective courses is 3 hours. ECP 3703 may be substituted for ECO 3101. Students must obtain a grade of "C" or higher in ECO 3101 or ECP 3703 in order to enroll in any course for which these classes are prerequisites. FIN 3223 may be substituted for one of the upper-division Economics electives. No more than 3 credits from ECO 4905 and/or ECO 4914 can be applied toward a major. Minors in Economics Students can earn a minor in Economics by satisfactorily completing 18 hours in Economics classes, including: ECO 2013 Macroeconomics ECO 2023 Microeconomics Economics courses numbered 3000 or higher
