What is Accounting?

Accounting is the language of business and is a process of measuring, recording, classifying, and summarizing financial data that will be useful in making economic decisions. Accounting information is used by the entity's stakeholders including shareholders, creditors, customers, employees, government entities, and others in the communities in which the entity operates.

There are many career paths for accounting graduates, including positions with public accounting firms and private accounting positions with corporations, governmental, and not-for-profit entities. Many accounting graduates also pursue professional certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
