goAbout the Program

The Curriculum and Literacy Program is intended for certified, practicing classroom teachers who have a strong interest in teaching literacy in grades K-6 or developing their content knowledge in elementary education and curriculum theory. This program provides an in-depth view of reading and writing research, curriculum theories and content information, and the application of theory to the classroom teaching.
Candidates from this program are expected to show mastery of the following goals:

  • Goal 1. The candidate will enhance their knowledge of curriculum theory and development
  • Goal 2. The candidate will refine and expand skills in reading and applying educational research
  • Goal 3. The candidate will explore how one can provide teacher leadership in curriculum or literacy

Deadlines to apply for admission to graduate studies:

  • Fall admission June 31 st
  • Spring admission October 31st
  • Summer admission March 31 st

goAdmission Requirements

  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited university and teacher certification in an appropriate area.
  • At least a 2.5 grade point average for the four-year undergraduate degree, and for the last two years of the undergraduate degree,
    -PLUS-
  • A grade point average of 3.0 or greater for the last two years of the undergraduate degree,
    -OR-
  • Scores of verbal 151-170, quantitative 143-170, and essay 4.5 or higher on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE),
    -OR-
  • A previous graduate degree from a regionally accredited university.
