Weekend Regatta Report:
Week 3
Old South Intersectional
Bob Bavier Team Race

Old South Intersectional: The Old South Regatta was hosted by University of Florida at Lake Wauberg, and conditions were relatively nice for the venue, with winds ranging from 8 to 20, depending on which side of the lake you were on. Eight races were sailed in each division. Paul Perry and Sarah Smith ended up 5th in A division, and Tom Hamby, Young Jo, and Dean Nixon combined efforts to finish 6th in B division. These mostly freshmen and sophomore Bulls sailors worked very hard but found themselves hampered by a lack of familiarity with 420's and lake sailing. They were improving throughout the day, though, and resolve to have a better showing at the next regatta. Eckerd won the event, with the newly formed Jacksonville University varsity team in 2nd, Georgia Tech in 3rd, and host Florida in 4th.

Bob Bavier Team Race: At the prestigious Bob Bavier team race in Charleston, SC, light air on Saturday resulted in a long postponement. When the breeze finally filled in, the USF sailors got off to a rocky start. Several combinations were tried, with Will and Chris Stocke, Abby Featherstone, Dominique Wright, Fernando Monllor, Ali Yarbrough, and Reba Campbell all competing. Many of the teams attending were nationally ranked, and Georgetown won the event with a record of 10-2, besting Yale on a tie-breaker, with host College of Charleston in 3rd with an 8-4 record, just in front of Stanford at 7-5. Trailing the top 4 were Navy (5-4), St. Mary's (4-5), USF (4-5), Eckerd (1-8), Miami (1-8), and Michigan (1-8).

Looking Ahead: Next week the USF Women will travel to Charleston, the team racers will be at Navy, and the local coed team will be at Rollins.
