Weekend Regatta Report:
Week 3
South Points 3
SAISA Mens Singlehanded National Qualifier
USF Clinic (SAISA South Womens Regatta)
St. Mary's Intersectional

South Points 3: USFSP hosted the SAISA SP-3 regatta on Saturday, with 9 teams participating. USF sailors Ben Mohney and Reba Campbell finished 1st in A Division, and freshmen AJ Degen and Darcy Jensen finished 1st in B division, combining to win the regatta overall. USF Women sailors also competed, and Sydney Jones and Megan Hostetter finished 2nd in A division, while Sara Simon and Ali Yarbrough finished 3rd in B division.  The foursome finished 2nd overall on their combined points. Competitors included University of Florida, Miami, Eckerd College, New College, Rollins, FAU, and Embry Riddle. Coach Allison Jolly conducted the races, ably assisted by members of the women's team.

SAISA Mens Singlehanded National Qualifier: At the SAISA qualifiers for the ICSA Men's National Singlehanded Championships, USF professor Dr. Steve Lang (and former coach / mentor of the sailing team) drove 3 Lasers plus 3 USF sailors to Charleston, SC on his birthday weekend. In some intense racing, sophomore Chris Stocke finished 2nd, qualifying for the Nationals in Long Beach, California, losing only to 2012 Olympian Juan Maegli sailing for College of Charleston. USF sailors Bryan White finished 7th, and Paul Perry finished 10th. Thank you Steve, and congratulations Chris.

USF Clinic (SAISA South Womens Regatta):
On Sunday, the USF women's sailing team conducted a mini-clinic, followed by the first annual SAISA South Women's Regatta. Conditions were ideal, with just enough breeze to sail, but not too much for the less experienced teams. Many, many thanks to the teams participating - USF, Eckerd, University of Florida, and Rollins, finishing in that order. Winning USF sailors were: Darcy Jensen and Ali Yarbrough in A division, and Devin Hansen and Patricia Calvo Jaschke in B division. Special thanks also to Ben Mohney, AJ Degen, and Tom Hamby for assisting the women's team with this event.

St. Mary's Intersectional: Finally the coed team traveled to St. Mary's College in Maryland for the weekend. The prestigious regatta was well attended, with many of the 18 teams competing currently ranked in the top 10 in the country. Seniors Will Stocke, and David Harrison competed, along with sophomore Emily Johnson and freshman Fernando Monllor. Fernando and David, sailing in B division, managed an amazing string of 3 bullets in a row, however USF could manage only 13th overall against the very competitive fleet.

Looking Ahead: This coming weekend, the USF Women's team travels to Miami for the SAISA Singlehanded Championships on Saturday, qualifier for Nationals, and for the SAISA Women's Dinghy Championships on Sunday, qualifier for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships. The JV team will be sailing at the SAISA SP-4 event, hosted by the University of Florida, and the coed team has a rare weekend off.
