Weekend Regatta Report:
Week 4
South Points 4
SAISA Women's Singlehanded National Qualifier
SAISA Women's Dinghy Championships

Weekend #4 was less busy than typical for USF sailors, and all competitions were in the state of Florida for a change!

South Points 4: At Lake Wauberg, the Gators hosted the SAISA SP-4 event. USF sailors did very well, tied for first overall with Eckerd, but losing the tiebreaker to Eckerd, but victorious over the other teams competing, including UF and Miami. Paul Perry and Candace Brewer were 2nd in A division, just 1 point off the lead. Freshmen Darcy Jensen and Reba Campbell were 3rd in B division, winning 2 of their 4 races!

SAISA Women's Singlehanded National Qualifier: The University of Miami hosted the SAISA qualification for the Singlehanded Nationals on Saturday. Eleven sailors from 4 different schools participated, and USF's Abby Featherstone was triumphant, winning convincingly. She will advance to the Nationals in Long Beach, CA in November, along with Men's USF qualifier Chris Stocke. Dominique Wright finished 3rd, just 2 points away from giving USF a 1-2 overall, while Colleen Hartman was just 2 points out of 5th. If it had been a team-scored event, USF would have dominated the competition.

SAISA Women's Dinghy Championships: Although it was the same venue, and the same competition, Sunday's results were unfortunately a different story. In the SAISA qualifier for ACC's (the Atlantic Coast Championships), the College of Charleston showed their doublehanded skills, winning by a wide margin, followed by host University of Miami. With three teams advancing to the ACC's, the race for the 3rd spot was extremely tight, coming down to the last 3 minutes of the final race, after 4 hours of racing. The Eckerd sailors got the job done, leaving the USF team with a somber drive home.

Looking Ahead: Looking forward to next weekend, the coed team will be competing at
Hobart William-Smith College in upstate New York, while the women will be at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Additional USF sailors will head back to Miami for the SAISA SP-5 event, while the Match Racing team will be attending an advanced match racing clinic.
