Leadership Development's Student Leadership Positions

SGStudent Government

Just as a superior classroom experience is vital to a student's academic excellence, the cocurricular experiences acquired through leadership opportunities are crucial as well. The Student Government Association of USF St. Petersburg represents the interests and concerns of students to the larger university community, while working to build an excitingly vibrant life on campus for students. Resident Assistants (R.A.s) are a very important part of the residence life department. R.A.s have direct and constant student contact, and, as facilitators for the residents, they aid in enhancing the social, intellectual and cultural development of each individual. The R.A. serves as a leader, positive role model and "tour guide" through residential life at USF St. Petersburg.

As campus tour guides, VIP Guides provide visitors with a realistic glimpse of the USF St. Petersburg experience and include an overview of campus facilities, programs and atmosphere. Guides join admission counselors in representing the university to prospective students and their families. They provide invaluable insight and help guests understand what it means to be a college student today.

The Reserve Officers' Training Corps is one of the most well-known leadership programs in the country and can be part of a student’s college curriculum. During classes and field training, students will learn first-hand what it takes to lead others, motivate groups and how to conduct missions as an officer in the army. Upon graduation from Army ROTC, students will earn the bar of a Second Lieutenant and become a leader for life.

The SPECTRUM Mentor Program (AMP) partners transfer and first year A.L.A.N.A. students with a student mentor based on common interests. Mentors help students acclimate to campus life at USF St. Petersburg. The A.L.A.N.A. mentors play an integral role in working with students during their first year of their college. Students will gain an understanding and appreciation of the campus culture, be introduced to co-curricular activities and receive assistance achieving academic and personal growth.

Orientation Leaders 2011-2012 school yearOrientation Leader Program

Orientation Leaders are carefully chosen to represent the university as ambassadors. They are often the first face for USF St. Petersburg for new and prospective students. O.L.s provide reassurance and impartially help students make their own decisions. They encourage involvement in campus life, share experiences, build a community of respect and provide information about campus resources and services.
