STARS Students Transitioning to Academic Readiness and Success Summer Program 2012 Welcome to the Students Transitioning to Academic Readiness and Success (STARS) summer program at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. As a STARS member, you can feel assured that your educational, professional, and personal development will be the focus of our efforts. STARS is an academically intensive eight-week program which allows select first-time freshman students to experience university learning and life in the summer. The program offers qualified freshmen provisional admission to USF St. Petersburg for summer 2012. STARS integrates course instruction with personalized academic support. Students take two college courses: ANT 2410 Cultural Anthropology and either ENC 1101 English Composition I or MAT 1033 Intermediate Algebra. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, students will earn six credit hours toward graduation and continue their university study into the fall semester. To successfully complete all program requirements and continue their study into the fall semester, students will need to maintain a 2.0 grade point average, with no grade lower than a C-. Students are required to attend all tutorial sessions, workshops on study skills, and co-curricular events, during the program. STARS helps students bridge the gap between high school and college through academic coursework, enrichment activities, and networking with other students, faculty and staff. Students will become familiar with the university, academic expectations, campus resources and opportunities, career planning, cultural diversity, and develop study skills. STARS students benefit from attending the first orientation, early academic advising, course registration, study skill training sessions, and an early move into the residence hall in June. Key dates: STARS Orientation is June 11-12, 2012. Classes begin Wednesday, June 13, 2012 and the program ends on Friday, August 3, 2012. A short break for the Fourth of July is taken, July 4 - 8, 2012. Email: academicsuccess@stpt.usf.edu Course Schedule
